Small Space Organization for your Vacation rentals
Vacation or property rentals can sometimes be challenging if your home is limited in space. This may make your rentals feel cluttered or disorganized. This can be the case whether a short-term Vacation rental or a place you live in yourself. The Property Manager in Durango has a few tips on how to start getting your apartment or rental organized for you or your vacation rentals.
Home office
We are all familiar with the idea of a pull-out couch for guests or even a murphy bed in our office. But beyond that, in today’s climate, many more people are working from a home office, even while on vacation. If your home or apartment is smaller, you have to get creative thinking on what will make it work for you.
The desk space might be your coffee table. Some coffee or end tables have under-storage space that also lift up for computing, or even eating.7 If you do have an office space, some items you could consider to help could be mountable Memo boards1 or desk pads for appointments or notes. They also come in all in one desktop and mouse pad.2 There are the typical desktop organizers for your pens, pencils, paperclips, scissors, and other miscellaneous items in smaller sizes. You can also buy desktop organizers with drawers if you do not have enough drawers in your desk. Surge Protecting Power strips that have USB ports are made in compact sizes for small spaces, (and are also very useful for travel).
Patios or Decks
Patios or decks can be limited in small homes or apartments. You can find weather-resistant yet space-saving vertical storage bins,4,5 deck boxes, horizontal cabinets, or outdoor benches. This helps alleviate clutter so your guests enjoy the outdoor space. Herbs and plants can be grown on walls, and you can even find self-watering vertical gardens.6 For homes with fireplaces or wood stoves, it’s always handy to have wood neatly stacked8 nearby.
Kitchen and Laundry
Kitchen and laundry storage is almost always very limited in smaller places and sometimes even larger ones. There isn’t enough counter space, nor cabinet storage. Find blank sides on your cabinet or appliances. The side, top, or underside of a cabinet can be utilized with hooks, floating shelves. Cabinet doors can often hold narrow spice racks, or even utensils. Or look at the new stronger magnetic spice holders for sides of refrigerators, or even washing machines. They can hold more than just spices, and can free up a whole cabinet for other storage. Window storage can be accomplished with clear shelves. Plastic grocery bag dispensers can be hung on walls or backs of doors with command hooks to save for small trash liners.
If you want to organize or make more space in a small kitchen, plan, measure, (twice) and read the reviews for space savers and small space organizers. You can find over-the-door holders for your cabinet doors that hold pot lids, muffin tins, cutting boards, and more. They can be mounted on the sides of cabinets too. You can buy pot and pan organizers in all shapes and sizes. Or cup, glasses, plates, spice organizers, and much more for inside cabinets. You can even find two-tier plate drying racks if you have minimal counter space. There are small to large pantry over-the-door organizers that can be mounted to solid wood doors or hang over the door. Inside the pantry, there are all sorts of different offerings to organize your dry goods like flour, sugar, beans, rice, spices – even rolling and rotating can organizers. Clear air-tight totes are helpful for Vacation rentals to keep items fresh or dust-free. Any time your cabinets and pantry are organized, your space feels larger, and it’s easier to rent out or live in. Don’t overdo — less can sometimes be more (even with organizers) and can make you feel cluttered all over again. You can always order more. Start small.
Whether you own, or rent, or even own a property to rent, there are ways to decorate and organize that won’t kill your budget.
Miscellaneous ideas
Come up with your own ideas. Built-in wall or free-standing benches can provide storage for extra blankets, whether as a kitchen nook or an end of the bed seat. Removable or permanent hooks provide additional spaces for bulky robes or towels. Slim, covered plastic rolling bins are available for under-bed storage. Narrow spaces in living rooms or bedrooms can have a narrow end table with a flip top and charging station. Whatever your needs, start with a couple of ideas and get your Property Rental in a state that is a much more relaxed environment for you or your vacation rental guests.
