Go Above and Beyond in Spring Cleaning Your Rental
Colorado Spring is just around the corner. We have to differentiate because everyone know Colorado has several versions of Spring!Durango has had a few false springs already and it’s not completely in the clear from snow yet. Spring cleaning is definitely in the air so we’re here to give you some ideas about what you can do with your apartment space. Some of these tasks may be a regular chore, but we tried to throw in some things you haven’t thought of. As a renter, it is important to ensure that your home is clean and well-maintained throughout the year for the property owners, but there’s also a lot to be said for doing it for your own sanity. Here are some ways you can go above and beyond with your spring cleaning in your rental.
Jokes aside, here are some ways to have your place looking ship shape while you wait for the snow to melt!
- Declutter: This is perhaps the most rapid and effective change you can make. This will not only make your apartment or condo feel more spacious, but also having less stuff means less cleaning down the road. Keep a box by the garage door and just spend five minutes in each room loading up a few items each day. Force yourself to set a day to take that box to a donation center so items don’t end up migrating back into your home.
- Deep clean your carpets: After you declutter, tackle the floors! Carpets can quickly accumulate dirt and dust, so it’s important to give them a deep clean every spring. Consider renting a carpet cleaner or hire a professional carpet cleaning service to get the job done. Many of these services also deep clean tile and grout!
- Dust and clean your blinds: Something most of us neglect throughout the year but makes a big difference aesthetically but also for your health. Dust and debris can quickly accumulate on blinds, so take some time to clean them thoroughly. Use a soft cloth or duster to remove any dust and wipe them down with a damp cloth to remove any grime.
- Clean your windows: Kind of hand and hand with blinds and shudders – windows can quickly become dirty from the elements, so take some time to clean them both inside and out. Use a squeegee or a microfiber cloth to remove any dirt and grime, and don’t forget to clean the windowsills and tracks.
- Deep clean your kitchen: The kitchen is one of the busiest areas in any home, so it’s important to give it a thorough cleaning. Clean the oven, microwave, refrigerator, and any other appliances, and don’t forget to wipe down the cabinets and countertops. Pull out the oven drawer and fridge to vacuum debris. This may also result in energy savings if your appliances have been overheating due to poor ventilation!
- Clean and organize your closets: Your closets can quickly become cluttered and disorganized, so take some time to clean and organize them. Follow the advice of many organizing experts: after removing obvious choices you will no longer where, hang remaining items in your closet backwards on their hanger. As the year goes on and you wear those items, turn the hanger back around. At the end of the season or end of the year, look to see which hangers are still backwards. Reassess those items and you’ll probably find you can easily get by with a lot less!
- Clean and dust your electronics: Dust and debris can quickly accumulate on electronics, so take some time to clean and dust them. Use a soft cloth or duster to remove any dust and consider using compressed air to remove any debris from the crevices.
- Clean your bathroom: The bathroom is another area that can quickly become dirty and cluttered. Shop fun bathroom organizers to help you get some inspiration. Aside from the obvious, you can also put bags of vinegar over shower heads, faucets and handles to remove build up!
Spring cleaning is an important task for renters (but also everyone) to undertake each year. By decluttering, cleaning, and dusting, you can give your rental a fresh and renewed feel. You don’t have to tackle it all in a day, just give yourself five minutes a day for a week on each project and you’ll be amazed with how much you’ll get accomplished.
